Dr. Penney joined the practice, known as 20/20 Eye Care, with Dr. James Letham in January 2016. After working alongside each other for several months, Dr. Penney took over as Dr. Letham started to enjoy a well-deserved retirement after serving the community for 35+ years. Dr. Letham carefully chose Dr. Penney to continue on in the practice, as he promised his patients he would find someone he trusted to continue to provide the type of care his patients had become accustomed to over the years.Dr. Penney was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She attended Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. and graduated Cum Laude in ‘08. Dr. Penney then worked in private practice in Chicago for two years, with a heavy focus on contact lens patients. She then moved to Elkins, WV where she spent two years working at a private practice that specialized in ocular disease treatment and management, including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration. While she was in WV, she married her husband and their first son was born. Shortly afterwards they moved to Pittsburgh, knowing it was where they wanted to raise their 2 boys. Since living in Pittsburgh, Dr. Penney has been working at a private practice in Bethel Park until transitioning into Dr. Letham’s practice.
Dr. Penney’s strengths in optometry include an interest in contact lenses, including specialty contact lenses such as multifocal lenses, keratoconus lenses, and more. She is also confident and knowledgeable regarding ocular disease treatment and management- especially dry eye syndrome, co-management of LASIK and cataract surgery, and providing eye care to children as young as 6 months of age.
